Jamaican Main Dish

Hey everyone!
It's Wednesday so it's time to talk about a Jamaican Main Dish, so let's jump right in!

Ackee and Saltfish
This is a traditional Jamaican dish that in which salt cod is sauteed with boiled ackee, onions, peppers, tomatoes and spices. This could either be served as breakfast or dinner alongside breadfruit, fried plantain, and/or dumplings. XP
Oh, and if the name ackee sounds familiar to you, it's because it's the famous Jamaican fruit that is poisonous when it is unripe. Eating an unripe ackee can result in Jamaican Vomiting Sickness, so handle this fruit with much caution!
You can learn how to make your own ackee and saltfish dish here! This recipe video is easy to follow and it even lists all the ingredients and measurements in the description!

Eating Barnacles in Portugal

Oi! Tudo bem? Vamos falar de comida porque esto com fome!!!

We know that Portugal is known for their outstanding fresh seafood, so why not take a look at their pescatarian dishes? Okay so the first dish below is a tiger prawn and a big one! In the YouTube video below, our favorite food critic Mark Wiens eats a buttery and grilled tiger prawn (which is a larger version of a shrimp) in Lisbon, Portugal. He described tasting the saltiness muscles texture in the prawn.

Wiens also tasted his first barnacle while describing that it looks like a finger nail...? Umm ok. He said that there was algae plants sticking to it, so you can tell how fresh those were plucked from the ocean. Wiens stated that the taste was in between a clam and sand paper...? Okay Mark, so you've eaten sand paper?

This video below by Travel Basecamp discussed the dangerous obstacles that fishermen go through to collect barnacles in Lagos, Portugal. The author described how the professional fishermen would either dive or tie themselves to large rocks while breaking apart the fishes that are stuck onto the rocks with a tool. He emphasized the reason why this job is dangerous because there are certain times to collect the fish because of the high winds and tide. The hosts in this video described that the barnacles tasted like an octopus.
